Review on I am Number Four

Movie: I Am Number Four
Main Actor: Alex Pettyfer

When I saw the preview for this I did want to go to the theater to see it, but for some reason I don't remember I didn't go see it. Needless to say it came out on dvd, but I didn't buy it...anywho I rented it from the blockbuster kiosk. I loved it.

Synopsis: John is an extraordinary teen, masking his identity and passing as a typical high school student to elude a deadly enemy seeking to destroy him. Three like him have already died...he is number four.

My Take: John (Pettyfer) is trying to pass an an ordinary teen though he's far from normal. After usffering from a searing new scar, John is back on the run because the scar's appearance in witnessed. After moving to a new town, he finds love and also must escape the hands of the creatures hunting him.

The Review: For some reason, I did not originally like Alex Pettyfer. I don't know, I think I heard he was a racist or something (that's not true by the way) and I just didn't want to see any movie he was in. Anyway, after assuming the claims weren't true (How am I suppose to know I don't know him personally) I watched I Am Number Four.
It was enjoyable. Pettyfer is swoon worthy and played his part well. I didn't quite understand what he was suffering from in the beginning but once I figured it out I began to enjoy it.I understood his purpose on Earth and I must say, if all aliens look like him and number six, humans definitely suck as a race (joking). John's (Pettyfer) uncle is a homey type alien (LOL). I felt the love he had for his nephew with all the protective measures he took in trying to keep them incognito.
One thing I didn't like about the movie is the fact that John fell in love so quickly with the female lead (one of the girls from Glee). It seemed a bit random when he suddenly declared his love for her.
I thoroughly enjoyed Number six. I don't think they ever actually told us her name. She was badass. (Excuse the language). When she blew up John's house and the fire engulfed her, I think that was my favorite part of the movie.

Okay, so at the end of the movie, they kid of hinted that there might be more of the numbers. I'm not sure how that's possible exactly. Considering they have to be killed in order, I'm not sure how they're going to pull this off when they have to be killed in order. I wouldn't want them to kill Alex Pettyfer, that wouldn't make me watch the other movies.

I've rate the movie perhaps a 7.8/10

Cheers!

Review on How to Train Your Dragon

Movie: How to Train Your Dragon

So if you follow my blog, you know that last week I did a review on The Sorcerer's Apprentice. It turns out, the same character that played the apprentice(I haven't looked up his name) also plays the lead in this movie.

MyTake: Hiccup (awful name, he knows) is of Viking decent and his father (Played by the wonderful Gerard Butler) is not proud of him because he cannot slay a dragon and whenever he tries, it always ends in disaster.

The Review: It was absolutely enjoyable. Though I felt that the main character's voice was a bit old for the part, he still gave that awkward adolescent voice that fit well with the part. The Night Fury he saved (one of the more vicious dragons) was absolutely adorable. He or it acted like a little puppy rather than a fearsome dragon. I think Hiccup named him toothless (as I said, they're bad with names). In a village where their name book says to kill all dragons on sight, it wasn't a good idea for him to befriend a dragon.
I don't want to give the movie away so I can't say much more, but it's great for children and adults alike.

Cheers!

Movie Tuesday: Review on the Sorcerer's Apprentice

So today I'm choosing to do something different. On Tuesdays, I'm going to do reviews on movies. Possibly new movies, or at least some Classics. (Aren't you excited? I am!) To jump start the tradition, I chose the movie The Sorcerer's Apprentice. I wanted to see the movie, but I wasn't sure whether it was a knock off Harry Potter (I would bloody hate that), but since it was a watch instantly on Netflix, I chose to try it out. So here it is...

My take : Tells the story of David, a descendent of a great sorcerer, Merlin. He meets Balthazar (Nicholas Cage) who was one of the three chosen sorcerers to defend mankind. They both fight off Morgana(spell check).

The Review: So taking a modern twist to the classic story of a sorcerer, David is brought up as a human who has no idea he has sorcerer blood. Then one day at the age of ten, he ventures into a store where a crazy man (Cage) talks to him about a ring and eventually gets him to put it on. Of course it fits and the rest is history.
Now, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I couldn't stop laughing. I thought the main character Dave was adorable (even at the age of 20). I wish they could have talked more about the love interest and fighting the other sorcerers that were released. (yes, it did get a bit confusing. Especially if you don't understand the terminology.)

Despite a couple mishaps, it was an overall entertaining movie and I'd give it a B+

Cheers!
